Kensmyth is renowned for its stunning Alpaca fleeces on large well bred Alpaca but not for its colour as we keep our products Natural. We have dabbled a little in natural dyed yarn but decided to breed a few more coloureds in the past few years and boy are we pleased with the results

great coloured fleeces, well hung stud boys, long staple length and large Alpaca but never forget they have fighting teeth folks!

most folks know we have soo many Alpaca now that we have to shear in batches. it makes life easier for skirting the fleeces I have to say. But the Mud Monsters certainly turned into Princes again after LOL

and whilst they need barns for shade and protection from cold or sunburn when first shorn, especially pregnant mums… our after shear protection is a nice bottle of wine LOL

last week end found me amongst my favourite quadrupeds and I know this is an Alpaca blog but I could not resist. We have horses in excess of 16.2 away at stud and as I am 6ft this gives some idea of heights!

as the cria outgrow the little coats – only used for premmie cria or very wet days, they need to be washed and re waterproofed. it is essential to use the correct waterproofing liquids but more important to clear the washing machine liquid container first…when washed, spray and leave to dry. let them into fresh air or they will smell horrible and the mothers might not like the smell when put on. pack outside to outside.

I read on a blog the other day “of all the things you can be, be kind” – I wish I remembered that more often and also that others remember it too!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it is all around, as is our Rhubarb and Courgettes LOL

not all maidens relish the idea of motherhood and run from it – literally!

but they get their in the end…

many of our followers and clients know that our pasture management and  grazing rotation is outstanding, resulting in negligible faecal counts and healthy Alpaca.

a couple of years ago now we looked at adding Rare Breeds to our portfolio to assist in the grazing of areas hard to reach and time consuming to strim or top.

enter two magnificent equine quadrupeds of the UK, both rare which continues our support of British breeds.

our miniature British Spotted mares and homebred foals graze the land between the Alpaca paddocks and “races” but they do make me laugh sometimes.

our second equine Rare breed mares standing over 16hh, substantially larger and are away at stud at the moment.

for those of you moaning that they never see them and thought they did not exist…

Well for the faint hearted look away but cria drop is in full swing and no one said farming Alpaca was easy!

what can you say? The Barns are filling with stunning cria and partitions are going up as maidens decide they would rather party all night than babysit!

well pretty much all farmers across the UK have had some bizarrely unpredictable weather in the past few days. As May disappears in a puff of mist and lightening, the cria drop continues at Kensmyth – madly!
