Alpaca & Muscovy

Beautiful butterflies in a friends garden

I popped over to see a friend who had a halter I needed to borrow and spotted this – I am not good with Butterflies and at first I thought it was a Red Admiral but then I thought it had too many beautiful colours on it – anyone know what it is please readers?

Alpaca Staple diet in birthing season, Kensmyth, Clay Meadow

Well hubby made our feed troughs years ago and we long ago ditched the drainpipe along the fences because the areas get too muddy. Funny how I wrote an article on it in Alpacas and Goats Magazine so many years ago and it became a trend… well these are much better..

and as the Alpaca mums hold onto their babies for what seems like forever, my staple diet is… quick toasted sandwiches if anything at all… birthing season in full season all over the UK and that second foal is hanging on for what seems like eternity LOL

Heatwave and belated Cria drop at Kensmyth, Clay Meadow

Alpaca simply delay their pregnancy when the weather is not right and that means dysmature cria which look full term but often are not there yet. We have had numerous females “hold off” so far this year but started in the heatwave.

Despite their origins – hot temperatures kill newborns – so into the barns they go complete with Nannies so Mums are not alone!

Now you see me now you don’t – Shearing Alpaca Clay Meadow, Cirencester

Well if you think we have been quiet on the Blog lately – we do have a reason! Busy Busy Shearing.

I am soo pleased to see our consistency in the fleeces even on the improved Alpaca and even on our Appaloosa.

it is AMAZING how people try to photoshop/touch up photos to make them look good – heres how good fleeces should look – straight off the back! LOL

May Bank Holiday – time to reflect on Nature, Kensmyth, Clay Meadow

Sitting in fields at night certainly focusses the brain – luckily I have never needed much sleep and my brain functions at a million miles per hour as my friends keep telling me!

Meantime, the night watch over, the day job kicks in and Spring has definitely sprung – see how many of these you recognise! Have a great BankĀ  Holiday – Kensmyth is crazy busy this one!
