Mild with frost at Kensmyth Alpaca, Clay Meadow in the Cotswolds

Well we feel happy that we have donated over 500 of our published books for those without the money to purchase gifts this Christmas and are waiting for more to be collected. A little kindness goes a long way.

Meantime warm spells interjected with frost and rain is a nightmare for alpaca who like cold, dry but not wet – mind out for those wet feet when the snow comes and melts which it surely will soon as temperatures drop.

Breaking the ice meantime..

December 2022 welcome and here comes the cold at Clay Meadow Alpaca farm

December 2022 – how many plans have been thwarted this year that have been destroyed by others I wonder? As the cold frosty morning hints of more cold to come, our thoughts go to those who have lost their homes and cannot afford to heat or eat this winter. We will do what we can to help, rest assured and work with many Charities as Kensmyth and individually.

Ocado vegetables do they come up to scratch or is it all supermarkets

I ordered tomatoes – yes I know it is not alpaca related but actually it was for Vegetarian clients – from Ocodo for the second attempt. My first order was okay but late and they promised a voucher that never arrived but the second order contained inedible tomatoes of which I had ordered quite a few. They did, eventually refund and send a second voucher but I am disinclined to use them again.. is this the way of Veg or just Ocado related please folks?

Bearing in mind it is Marks and Spencer related, I was surprised.. all of these were inedible, had no use by date or sell by date or expiry date and when consulting with Ocado advised they do not have to put one on! It then transpired the number which is ready by them relates to a date of expiry but that they do not put a use by date on so that folk use them longer than that.. helpfully saving wastage .. um that one is lost on me folks!

Be aware – how do you know how old the product you are receiving is if this is not on it?

Pregnancy testing at Kensmyth Alpaca Clay Meadow

When all the alpaca are pregnant that you want to me, you just love the boys for their part!

Scanning alpaca is an art and whilst we check on our own kit, we get specialists in now too for double checking. A year is a long time to wait for a baby that was never going to arrive – all pregnant here!

Barn for winter at Kensmyth Alpaca in the Cotswolds

Well for many a new barn is not that exciting but with climate change meaning the ground is wetter and alpaca having pads like dogs not hooves, concrete bases are critical for drying their feet. I have put together the Barn for those interested in how it goes up as it really is almost there.. just needs doors!
