Alpaca can very easily become tangled in those barbs of the beautiful blackberry but did you know that they trail into the ground as well? do not be fooled.. they need removing before alpaca can be let onto those paddocks..

I knew that she had died when the first announcement came and Huw Edwards started talking about her life, it was formality to delay the formal announcement until after the family had arrived at Balmoral. I cried, not just because she was gone and for what we have lost as a country but for what lies ahead and so too for the loss of my Father whose birthday it would have been tomorrow.

Who cares what we think here? The nation mourns as they did for Philip her loving husband and as we did for Diana taken so young.

I have to say we do not get out often but for varying reasons, I had the opportunity to take some people out in the past weeks. The prices in the Cotswolds shook me to the core compared to even Berkshire!

Nice though it was, a restaurant in Somerford Keynes charged £16 for this burger!!

the triple cooked chips were greasy and that was literally all you got!

Back in good old Berkshire, the Shire Horse at Littlewick Green serves you both of these yummy starters for the same price (that is both of them together cost the £16) so I know where I will go next time!

I love September above most months of the year because it heralds the Harvest, the crisp of the frost and the onset of the months when relationships can be rekindled and the wildness of the light nights of Summer changes to a warmth that just cold does not invoke in me.

Who knows what weather we will have this September?

well the heatwave abated for a short while then returned and with so many strikes and lorry parks, no wonder the Bank Holiday carried dire warnings for travellers but at least the Festivals were still on, Carnivals too.. time for salads.

I have been donating fruit left right and centre from the orchard, from the chap who collects the Skips to every single visitor, they enjoy a bag of plums, apples and pears.. does this mean an extra hard winter ahead?

Well if you think we are quiet anytime on the Blog, rest assured we are madly busy. We have been doing training of the two year olds, training of new alpaca owners and all farm work on site despite the heat. With the alpaca cria drop from this year (those not sold and gone with their mothers) and the vulnerable needing protecting from the heat is it full on!

Meantime, we have another little project on the go.. now why might I be visiting a Quarry and looking at stone I wonder?

Things are starting to happen at Kensmyth and we are already into 16th year of breeding!

Sometimes we have to stop and take stock of what we are doing and why and who is it all for.. there is nothing like a rising two year old human to put it in perspective for you..
