Hard winter ahead and Hay will be in short supply Summer 2018 at Kensmyth

with the parched grass we are feeding supplements to the still pregnant and those now lactating mums – along with the hay that we have always fed daily throughout the year regardless – keeping essential mineral and vitamin levels up for the Alpaca.

with the Sloes the size they are already this year, I expect we are in for another hard Winter – sorry folks.

             

cria crazy here at Kensmyth but still no foal arrived

Our lane eating versatile pony mare is still holding on… place your bets but the cria continue thick and fast…

our matings for producing unusual colours on decisions made last year has worked out just as we planned!

please remember to get vulnerable mothers and cria into the shade and ensure they have adequate water. Cria quickly die in temperatures like these despite their origins. A weak cria is also likely to have its eyes pecked out by crows and magpies – sorry but its true.

it doesn’t seem to matter what time of the day or night it is these days, so long as I know the date, I can vaguely say I am in the land of the living… still no foal from our mare despite being bagged up for 3 weeks now… and the last cria still to come… just loving this time of year and blessed with such prolonged sunshine… lets hear it for the boys…
